Onions and Beef
- 1 medium sweet yellow onion thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter divided
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 8 ounces 90/10 ground beef
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
Bread and Cheese
- 4 slices sandwich bread
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- Mustard optional
Cooking Steps
In a large cast-iron skillet set over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of butter and onions. Cook until deep brown, about 25 minutes. Add apple cider vinegar and stir.
Shape ground beef into two thin patties, season with salt and pepper. Cook in the skillet for 3 minutes per side on medium-high heat.
Wipe skillet clean, add remaining butter and toast bread slices, then build sandwiches in the skillet with cheese, patties, and onions.
Cook sandwiches over medium-low heat for 3 to 4 minutes per side until bread is toasted and cheese is melted.
Slice sandwiches in half and serve immediately while warm.
