Ingredients
  

Onions and Beef

  • 1 medium sweet yellow onion thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter divided
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 8 ounces 90/10 ground beef
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Bread and Cheese

  • 4 slices sandwich bread
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • Mustard optional

Instructions
 

Cooking Steps

  • In a large cast-iron skillet set over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of butter and onions. Cook until deep brown, about 25 minutes. Add apple cider vinegar and stir.
  • Shape ground beef into two thin patties, season with salt and pepper. Cook in the skillet for 3 minutes per side on medium-high heat.
  • Wipe skillet clean, add remaining butter and toast bread slices, then build sandwiches in the skillet with cheese, patties, and onions.
  • Cook sandwiches over medium-low heat for 3 to 4 minutes per side until bread is toasted and cheese is melted.
  • Slice sandwiches in half and serve immediately while warm.
