Equipment

  • Oven
  • Mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • whisk
  • Wire rack

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or olive oil

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Pour the warm water and oil into the dry mixture.
  • Stir until a soft dough comes together. Don’t overmix—just combine until no dry streaks remain.
  • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for 1–2 minutes until smooth and soft.
  • Form the dough into a round or oval loaf and place it on your prepared baking sheet.
  • Use a sharp knife to make a few shallow slashes across the top.
  • Pop the loaf into the oven and bake for 18–20 minutes, until golden and it sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  • Let the bread cool slightly on a wire rack before slicing and enjoying!

Notes

Add a teaspoon of honey for a touch of sweetness. Mix in garlic powder or herbs for a flavorful twist. Best served warm with butter, jam, or a bowl of soup!
